Apparently, the solar system is bigger, or at least different than we thought it was.

Down with Pluto! We've finally found a planet worthy to be our true ninth. Away with ye, foul trans-neptunian space object!
Let's see.....more to our solar system than previously though...comets are not what has been theorized....medicines are good-until they are found to be bad...anyone see a pattern here?
Secular science is led by idiots!
Pretty cool about the new "planet", though...huh? Maybe there is alien life on it! Let's spend a few hundred billion freaking dollars to find out!
Evolutionists-what a bunch of losers!
Hahahahaha! You can't really be serious, right? I'm just going to go ahead and assume that you're just saying that, because they refuse to stick their heads in the ground and ignore ongoing developments to the point of actually encouraging people to disagree with them for the purpose of ultimately making everyone involved better-informed, scientists are "idiots."
Because otherwise...wow.
But you're joking, so it's ok.
Right?

Err....umm....uh.......secular scientists are idiots because they let their fantasies influence their science! Can ant reasonable person believe that all that conjecture has merit?
Only those who don't want "Intelligent design" to be true....for selfish reasons. of course.
Call me a kook-but I'm right!
All conjecture doesn't have merit. I know you're from the south or whatever, but didn't they teach you about the scientific method? The whole idea is that you do an experiment or make an observation, and then tell everybody what you found and how to reproduce the result, and if they do, then it has merit. You can say, "I've discovered how to turn water into wine using only products available at your local hardware store," but if nobody else can pull it off, you're gonna be laughed at, because you're making it up. Since the bible is the "word of god," nobody tests it. You obviously didn't read my monotheism post.
I almost feel like I should get you a subscription to Scientific American or something. Or maybe Zoobooks.

Sam, are you saying that evolution must be true because a bunch of people who want it to be true have decided that it's true? My observation is this: The "scientific" community has built a model with gaping holes out of building blocks-made assumations as to what the gaping holes would, in reality, be filled with-then tell me this is a GOOD model? Come on, dude! I went through public education my whole life wth the "theory" of evolution-hell, I should believe the way you do-and did until I began making my own observations.
Yeah, I'm a hillbilly and admit it freely. While you seem to place your "faith" in the belief of evolution-mine is placed in the belief of a God Almighty.
You know, I have a pretty happy life.
Enjoy every day of it-pretty much (aside from the day-to-day bumps)
At the end of the day, I know that nothing is lost in my life due to my faith.
And I also know that absolutely NOTHING is gained in a faith in evolution theory!
BTW-my interpretation of "libertarian" is one that says that an individual has the freedom to do anything they desire-as long as it brings no harm to another individual.
I'm curious-what is your interpretation?

My definition's basically the same as yours, so I'm dropping that point :)
I don't know how old you are, nor how much of the theory of evolution you were taught. I can wager that, since you went to public school, it wasn't done very well. I can almost certainly assert that practically all of your problems with evolution can be answered within the theory.
I think of the scientific method something like linear regression, I guess. You have a lot of data, and you find what best fits the given data. Just starting out, it's going to be innaccurate in many points. Would you discredit the entire field of astronomy because the orbit of mercury wasn't explained until Einstein? Evolution is, interestingly enough, evolving. It's getting better all the time.
Obviously there are problems you can raise that are simply paradigm issues, i.e. ones that rely entirely on the existance of god. Those, evolution can't answer, but doesn't try to.

"Secular science is led by idiots!"
Sure, science is always improving on itself, meaning that it's never perfect. Let's not forget where astronomy and medicine would be without scientific improvement, back with heavenly spheres and demons.
d. elrod, if you have questions about evolution and the false science of intelligent design, a good site to visit would be The Panda's Thumb. There is a reason that evolution has been a cornerstone of biology, geology, cosmology, and other fields for nearly a hundred years.
If you investigate evolution (beyond the high school level) with an honest open mind and critical gaze, you'll realize that it isn't the evolutionists who are out to deceive. I went through a stage doubting evolution too, mostly because anti-evolution arguments sound really good with no more than a high school background in the subject. But once I explored further, I realized that now, doubting the concept of evolution is like doubting the cocept of germ theory.
All I can say more, then, is that your 'thgeory'-full of holes as it may be" cannot stand on any ground that disregards the massive time-spans that your theory calls for.
Doesn't "evolution" contradict the 2nd law of thermodynamics?
If the definition of lib is to do your own thing "as long as it brings no harm to another individual" it is impossible to be libertarian and religious. Too many people's lives have been NEGATIVELY inluenced by organized religion and millions killed in the name of God.
Evolution would contradict the 2nd law of thermodynamics...if it had anything to do with thermodynamics. If your argument had merit, then libertarians would be wrong, because spontaneous order would "contradict" the 2nd law of thermodynamics also.
And saying evolution "cannot stand on any ground that disregards the massive time-spans that [it] calls for" is like saying that the "theory" of gravity can't stand on any ground that disagrees with the other principles of physics. It's no coincidence that evolution really got off the ground shortly after a series of advances in geology. People had been contemplating an evolution-like theory or two, but until it was more or less conclusively proven that the earth is really old (far older than, say, 6009 years), it didn't really have any merit, precisely because of the reasons you mention. The fact is, evolution is backed up by fact and scientific inquiry. Religion is backed up by clergy, and "divine fiat." And frankly, that's just not good enough for me.
